Episode 84

PARANORMAN (2012) ft. Kay Lynch // Queer Fears

Published on: 14th June, 2022

Did you know queer people could talk to ghosts!? We're continuing our Pride Month coverage talking ParaNorman with Kay Lynch, a family friendly horror film that is a lot more mature than you'd think. We discuss the queerness of the film, explicit and coded, and how the film chooses to introduce some big ideas to children. Also spend time on the exploiting of regional history and how the "witch hunt" of the film is extremely relevant to the queer-political climate today. Just like the film, this convo is heavy but also very sweet. Take a hit and pass that spooky shit!

About the Podcast

Specter Cinema Club
An exploration of the sub-genres that make up our favorite horror movies!
The ghosts of your horror movie club explore a different sub-genre each month! Featuring creators from the spooky community, stoner filmmaker DeVaughn Taylor & film journalist Garrett McDowell discuss the recurring motifs of various sub-genres and what makes the best genre films work. New episodes every Tuesday!

NOTE: We recommend starting at Season 2 (Ep60) as that's when Garrett joined and began our current format. Season 1 was the experimental phase haha
NOTE: The first 99 episodes, we were under "Bloody Blunts" however the show didn't change, so Season 3 is where we continued as "Specter Cinema"
